本劇改編自清水玲子所著同名漫畫，以科學警察研究所的法醫(yī)第九研究室，通稱“第九”為舞臺，利用特殊的MRI技術(shù)再現(xiàn)死者的生前記憶。擁有罕見容貌、驚人記憶力和敏銳洞察力的薪剛（板垣李光人 飾），是第九的創(chuàng)始成員兼室長。由于某個事件，既是好友又是同事的鈴木克洋（中島裕翔 飾）去世了，在薪的面前，被分配到了一模一樣的新人搜查員青木一行（中島裕翔 飾）。兩人看到了死者直到臨終都隱藏著的“想法”和“秘密”，雖然心中抱有罪惡感和糾葛，但仍為解決難案而奮斗，成為無可替代的搭檔。
